From an original idea of Claude Vallée, the Cosmophone has been developed by:

  • David Calvet (CPPM, now LPC Clermont-Fd)
  • Dirk Hoffmann (CPPM)
  • Richard Kronland (PRISM)
  • Claude Vallée (CPPM)
  • Thierry Voinier (PRISM)

with technical support from CPPM.

To buy or rent a Cosmophone

The present state of the art allows to propose devices covering areas ranging from one to one hundred square meters. Potential applications include:

  • didactic installations for science museums, planetariums, or any institution dealing with scientific communication.
  • artistic devices for permanent or temporary instrumentation of concert halls, or mobile open air shows.
  • large scale installations with spectacular effects for leisure parks.
  • the instrumentation of dance floors for discotheques.
  • small scale devices for ornamentation of public halls or private usage.

The device configuration will be studied for each individual case and sound effects will be composed according to the destination of the installation.

Two large Cosmophones optimised for a science museum can be visited at any time in the section “Le Grand Récit de l’Univers” of the Cité des Sciences et de l’Industrie in Paris and on the second floor in the permanent exhibition of the Observatoire de Vaulx-en-Velin. A 12 square metres installation can also be seen in Marseille on request.
